Employee Assistance Center (EAC) understands that employers must be proactive in responding to organizational change, societal forces, and the evolving marketplace. We help your business improve competitiveness by providing training that helps improve the well-being and productivity of managers and staff. In addition to the regional training schedule below, we offer training programs that meet your specific goals and objectives. Regional training is FREE of charge to employees and their family members.

Work/Life Balance
The Work/Life Balance program is new for 2006. It is commonly believed that a healthy, balanced employee is a productive employee. This program is for supervisors and employees. Participants will learn strategies for combining career and personal life goals, understanding time management and prioritizing, and learning about resources that are available to help attain balance. A very interactive class with take home reminders.

Training Topics
Addressing Performance
This program is for managers and frontline supervisors. The emphasis is on confronting and coaching people with poor performance. We give the manager skills to work with and help people through life issues. We build a step-by-step process for managers to work with their human resources department, the EAC and the person, to achieve success in whatever issue an employee may be experiencing.
Assault Prevention and Conflict Resolution
Location: Employee Assistance Center in Grand Rapids.
This workshop focuses on assault prevention and conflict resolution. Participants will discuss topics including: risk management and how it affects daily life, how attacks are carried out, types of threats, and much more. Presented by Craig Gray, Director of Education at Her Survival Guide, this powerful 1 hour introductory workshop is designed to not only raise awareness, but to also give each participant some functional tools to educate and empower them for safer, healthier & happier lives.
Conflict Management
The Conflict Management session is designed to help employees and managers develop and utilize assertive, construction communication with other employees. The participants will review six types of conflict and identify alternative approaches to resolving conflicts in the workplace. The session is interactive with case studies, profile reports and a resolution card to remind the participants of the approaches they discussed in the training session.
Coping with Change
The managing change seminar helps participants understand the change experience. There are six distinct steps that each of us experiences in the change process. We will outline each of the six steps and put some application and understanding to each phase. You'll walk away with steps to prepare for change in your organization and learn how to manage the change and communication in your area of work.
Dealing with Difficult People
Our most requested program. The emphasis is on helping managers work with people that are creating difficult work situations. We review the skills necessary for managers to deal with issues immediately. We give the managers the skills to confront and challenge people in a positive and supportive approach.
Elder Care
What happens when you hear the words, “Mom or dad can’t live at home anymore.” What is your next step? Where do you start to search? How much is it going to cost? What type of care should you ask for? Are there senior living options available where your loved one lives? Find answers to these questions and more at this regional training featuring PathFinder Senior Services, an elder care referral services that is offered free to employees served by the Employee Assistance Center.
Financial Management
In today’s challenging economic climate, many employees are struggling with their finances. Participants in this workshop will learn important budgeting principles. We partner with Green Path Financial Services to provide practical information and helpful tools for managing money.

Living Healthy
The Healthy Lifestyle class is new for 2010. This class focuses on basic information related to weight, nutrition, exercise, and stress. Participants are given tips and resources to assist in creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In the end, it is our hope that participants will learn that a healthy lifestyle can be achieved by making one conscious, positive choice, day after day.
Managing Stress and Burnout
Most people experience stress. It seems, though, that the current economy is causing much more than just stress; it is also causing extreme burnout. In this class, participants will discuss the “stressors” that are experienced in the workplace and the stress management concepts needed to overcome them. Participants will also discuss the signs and stages related to burnout and will learn how to cope and deal with burnout, while still being productive.
Preventing Harassment in the Workplace
The harassment program can be for managers or team members. The program focuses on the importance of understanding the ramifications of harassment, sexual or otherwise in the workplace. We give participants a quiz to review their understanding of the key laws we review in the program. A very important program and necessary for all employees to understand today’s law in the area of harassment.
Smoking Cessation
This smoking cessation series is based upon the American Cancer Society’s Freshstart Program. This four-session program is designed to help participants stop smoking by providing them with all of the essential information and strategies they need to support their efforts to quit. The program focuses on an active, pragmatic approach to quitting smoking and consists of four one-hour sessions over a period of four weeks. Participants are expected to pick a "quit date" no later than the third session.
Stress Management
Techniques for developing the skills to live with and manage life’s stresses.
Winter Blues
Ever notice how a grey, gloomy day can make you feel tired and depressed, but a sunny day can leave you feeling cheerful and energized? Well, there is a scientific reason for this caused by insufficient exposure to sunlight. Because there are so many grey, gloomy days in the late winter/early spring, the Employee Assistance Center is offering this regional training to help employees develop useful strategies to overcome these common symptoms.
Workplace Violence
Identifies behavioral warning signs/profile of potentially violent individuals, tips on preventing and responding to violent situations.
